Texas Meter & Device began operations in 1937 as a small electric watthour meter repair shop which served a few nearby rural electric cooperatives in the Central Texas Area. From that beginning, TMD has become a diversified company offering a broad range of products and services to the electric power industry, both domestically and internationally.

Our client base is as diverse as is our offering of products and services. In the U.S., we serve investor-owned utility companies, rural electric cooperatives, municipally-operated electric departments, commercial and industrial companies, local, state, and national government agencies, electrical distributors , contractors and electricians, as well as, RV park, mobile home park and marina operators, apartment project owners and others. Our foreign clients include government-owned and investor-owned utility companies, rural electric cooperatives, electrical distributors, U.S. and foreign commercial and industrial companies and agencies of the U.S. Government, such as U.S. Agency for International Development (U.S.A.I.D.) and The National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (N.R.E.C.A.).

TMD is one of the nation's leading electric watthour meter testing and meter remanufacturing companies, as well as, a full service distributor of new meters and metering equipment. We also retrofit, program and calibrate meters with electronic modules for remote reading and design and fabricate a variety of metering equipment and metering packages for specialized metering applications.

TMD-Remanufactured electric meters are available in single-phase, polyphase , electro-mechanical and electronic and are sold throughout the United States. We also export our remanufactured electric meters to many foreign countries. In addition, a number of our international clients purchase meters in "as is, working" condition.

In 1976, at the request of an investor-owned utility company, TMD began testing linemen's personal high voltage protective equipment, or "rubber goods", as this equipment is known in the industry. TMD was instrumental in the formation of The National Association of Independent Testing Laboratories for Protective Equipment Testing (N.A.I.L.). Our high voltage testing laboratory was one of the first to be accredited by N.A.I.L. We are also a stocking distributor of all brands of rubber goods.

TMD has been testing, repairing, calibrating and certifying electrical instruments for many years. Our well-equipped instrument calibration laboratory has National Institute of Standards and Technology (N.I.S.T.) traceability and is equipped to service a wide variety of electromechanical and electronic instruments.

We also design and fabricate high voltage surge protectors and relay, metering and control panels for electrical substations, generation plants and other applications. We fabricate this equipment to engineering specifications. Most of these projects are earned on a competitive bid basis.

The TMD corporate office, meter remanufacturing facility, and meter testing, high voltage testing and instrument calibration laboratories are located in Waco, Texas. Our metal fabrication facility and field service personnel are in Round Rock, Texas.
